Jonas

Dinaw Mengestu
È nato ad Addis Abeba nel 1978. A due anni si è trasferito negli Stati Uniti con la madre e la sorella, per raggiungere il padre che aveva lasciato l’Etiopia durante gli anni del “Terrore rosso”. Dopo la laurea alla Georgetown University e il master in scrittura creativa alla Columbia University, ha cominciato a scrivere per Rolling Stone (sulla guerra in Darfur) e per altre riviste (tra cui Jane Magazine sul conflitto nel nord dell'Uganda, Harper's e The Wall Street Journal ). Leggere il vento è il suo secondo romanzo. Il primo, Le cose che porta il cielo , ha riscosso un grande successo di critica ed è stato insignito di alcuni tra i premi letterari più prestigiosi degli Stati Uniti e del mondo. Mengestu è stato incluso dal New Yorker list of the twenty best writers under 40.
Paolo Cognetti
degree in mathematics and graduated in scriptwriting at the Civica Scuola di Cinema di Milano, is dedicated to a decade making documentaries on social, political and literary. Passionately to American literature, has in turn decided to become a writer. He made his debut in 2004 in the anthology Air quality (Minimum Fax). Later he published two collections of short stories (success Manual for girls , Bergamo Prize finalist, and A little thing that is going to explode ) and a literary guide to the city of New York, New York è una finestra senza tende . Vive tra Milano, New York e una baita in montagna in cui trascorre alcuni mesi all'anno. Nel 2009 ha vinto il premio Lo Straniero, riconoscimento attribuito dalla rivista Lo Straniero , diretta da Goffredo Fofi, ad artisti, saggisti, operatori, iniziative culturali e sociali di particolare spessore e generosità.
Il Centro di Studi sui Linguaggi delle Identità
Il Centro di Studi sui Linguaggi delle Identità, costituitosi nel 1998 nella Facoltà di Lingue e Letterature straniere dell'Università degli Studi di Bergamo, si propone di indagare i modi in cui la scrittura letteraria, ma anche cinematografica e mediatica, esprime la crisi del soggetto moderno e postmoderno. In questa analisi particolare attenzione viene prestata alle nozioni di "gender" (ovvero di identità sessuata culturalmente costruita) e di differenza.
Il punto di partenza delle indagini del centro è costituito dalle elaborazioni critiche svolte nell'ultimo quarantennio negli Stati Uniti, ma anche nelle altre aree anglofone, luoghi di confronto e di conflitto fra identità multiple e intrecciate: culturali, sessuali, religiose, etniche, razziali e di classe. Ancor più della Gran Bretagna, gli Stati Uniti, per il loro pluralismo costitutivo e per gli incessanti e massicci flussi migratori e immigratori che li percorrono, si sono dimostrati il terreno ideale per il più pieno sviluppo (e talvolta the explosion) of issues related to identity and difference. Per quanto riguarda il rapporto fra la situazione culturale italiana e quella di altri paesi, il nostro lavoro parte da esperienze prevalentemente statunitensi, senza volersi però limitare a un ambito disciplinare specialistico, ma anzi rapportandosi ai contesti europei e a quello nazionale. In questo senso consideriamo nostri primi interlocutori i colleghi anglisti, per ovvie ragioni, ma anche i cultori di teoria letteraria e di letterature europee, e fra loro gli italianisti, in quanto studiosi della cultura cui il comitato promotore del Centro appartiene, entro cui opera, and from which we observe American and Anglophone in a dialectical and comparative.
